The Naïve-Quote-of-the-Day goes to Senator Lindsey Graham, who today declared the following:
"The likelihood of a filibuster in the future has gone down because you've got seven Democrats promising not to do it unless there is an extraordinary circumstance." (Fox's Special Report)
Heh. Right. And I'll bet Senator Graham still believes that "comity" was created with the "deal" that he helped to negotiate with the Democrats to avert the constitutional option last Monday.
Senator Graham, would you like to buy a bridge in Brooklyn? I've got a real good deal I'll give you. You seem to be naïve enough to take the kind of deal I might give you.
Every time the good senator opens his mouth the last few days he just sticks his foot in it even more and more, but his remarks today outdo just about every other asinine thing he has said this week.
The "deal" that was reached on Monday was a terrible one. It looked bad from the moment it was announced, and every single day thereafter it looked worse and worse. Yesterday's failure to invoke cloture on the Bolton nomination put to rest any notion that new "comity" had been created in the Senate with the "deal." The least that Senator Graham could do is not try to insult our intelligence by naïvely stating that the Democrats will not engage in a filibuster, except for "extraordinary circumstances."
