It does indeed strain credulity for Ron Brownstein of the Los Angeles Times to suggest to us that his judgments about covering John McCain will be unaffected by his wife's new position as an aid to Senator McCain. Hugh Hewitt writes:
"Not a conflict? Sorry, but John McCain is in a very real way paying not Brownstein's wife but the Brownstein household. McCain's star rises, then Brownstein's does as well."
At the very least, any reporting Brownstein does from here on - about or in involving John McCain - must be digested through this new prism of understanding.
