The New York Times had to admit that the Iraqi constitution passed in the first paragraph of its story. Must have been hard to swallow for the Times, which is why the rest of the story tries to diminish what the constitution really means for Iraq: A significant step toward a democratic form of government. Sure, many challenges remain, but the Times seems to go overboard to accentuate the negative possibilities here. Not surprising, though, since the Times is now heavily invested in the "everything is going wrong for Republicans...nothing is going right in Iraq" storyline.
