Mainstream media is hysterically clamoring for Dick Cheney to come out and have an "Oprah Moment," in which he bares his feelings of great regret in public over the accidental shooting of Harry Whittington this past weekend while on a South Texas hunting trip.

Cheney's good friend, former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson, aptly explains why Cheney is so reluctant to have contact with those in the increasingly unhinged Old Media:

Former senator Alan K. Simpson, a fellow Wyoming Republican who hunts with Cheney, said the vice president decided when he was defense secretary during the Persian Gulf War that journalists ask "stupid questions" and distort things, and so he probably sees no need to publicly explain himself.

"Whatever he does, Dick will do it his own way, because whatever he does, it will be the subject of ridicule," Simpson said.

Indeed it will. Cheney knows he can't win with any of the Old Media, so why bother trying to pacify them?

Watching the White House press briefings of the last two days has been quite amusing, especially while observing the always reliable dunce David Gregory, who is - as always - so intent on feigning outrage in an obvious effort to bring attention to himself and his own aspirations and ambitions, that he is instead reinforcing in the public's mind all that is wrong with Old Media. David Gregory would just love for this to to be 1974 with a full blown Watergate scandal in the making, so that he could rise in stardom while attempting to take down a "corrupt" administration. But this is not 1974, and Mr. Gregory displays his agenda so transparently as to defeat its purpose, if it even really matters anymore, with the more than abundant competition that he and his colleagues in Old Media now face. Frankly, I find him as annoying as a fly on the wall, and instantly have the urge to change the channel from wherever I see his pathetic little act emanating. Unfortunately, I must often keep at the self-torture of watching in order to be able to write about his regrettable and disengenious antics.
