Democratic Rep. John Conyers is itching to investigate the Bush administration, and itching only slightly less to impeach George W. Bush. Of that there is no doubt.
But Nancy Pelosi et al have gotten to Conyers, apparently petrified that this could ignite and inflame even a dispirited Republican base into turning out in sufficient numbers to deny Pelosi her coveted speakership.
The result is this hilarious and highly unpersuasive piece by Conyers, which begs the public to believe that Conyers does not consider the impeachment of George Bush a foregone conclusion. Conyers would have you believe that there is no "rush to impeachment."
Conyers may not intend to rush it, but he certainly intends to use his powers, if he is chair of the Judiciary Committee, to further efforts to impeach the president. Any argument by him to the contrary is disengenious.
