John S. McCain, written off for politically dead by almost everyone not long ago, has managed one of the greatest political comebacks in US history to secure the GOP nomination this evening.
Meanwhile, the Democrats continue to fight it out, with Hillary Clinton ahead at the moment in Ohio, and Barack Obama ahead in Texas. It could be a very muddled evening for the Democrats.
The Republican Party has to be smiling, and indeed popping corks on the champagne bottles this evening. Republicans indeed have their nominee. The Democrats look as though they are going to fight it out at least through Pennsylvania on April 22. The Democrats are going to spend all that money that they have raised fighting it out with each other until April 22. John McCain will now have the Republican Party rally completely around him, with the added benefit of the fundraising prowess of George W. Bush.
In short, not a good evening for the Democrats and a very good evening for Republicans. Congratulations to Senator John S. McCain.
