Les Moonves: Won't Rule Out Jon Stewart On Evening News
Browsing the CBS News site just a few minutes ago, I see that CBS chief Les Moonves thinks that he has found the answer to Dan Rather's replacement.
Moonves thinks that he might replace Rather with a multi-anchor, multi-city format, where numerous anchors would broacast from different cities. Fine. ABC did this with World News tonight - as I recall they had three anchors - Frank Reynolds in Washington, Peter Jennings in London and another anchor in Chicago (can't remember his name).
But then I read that Moonves is thinking of putting Jon Stewart of Comedy Central on the CBS Evening News. Huh? What are his qualifications? What credibility and gravitas does he bring to the table? Fine, if you think that he is funny, but the CBS Evening News should not have a seat for him. Bring in serious people with serious credentials to broadcast the Evening News.
Edward R. Murrow must be rolling over in his grave.
